Obituary: Doris Elizabeth Earnhardt Carter, 85, of Rockwell, passed away on Monday, February 12, 2018, at Atrium Health-Main, Charlotte following a short illness. Doris was born October 23, 1932 in Rowan County, NC, a daughter of the late Charlie Monroe Earnhardt and Virginia Russ Earnhardt. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband, Johnnie Lee Carter on June 12, 2010, and a son George Michael Carter in 2013. She was educated in the Rowan County School System and was employed for many years as cafeteria manager for the Cabarrus County School System. She later retired from the Cabarrus County Sheriff's Dept. cafeteria. Doris was a member of the Kannapolis Congregation of Jehovah's Witness. She enjoyed working on the farm, putting together jigsaw puzzles and taking care of her animals. Family members left to cherish her memory are one son, Johnnie Darryl Carter (Karen) of Concord, one daughter, Dianne Carter Marze (Roy) of Kannapolis, one brother, Grady Earnhardt (Jennie) of Salisbury, three sisters, Carolyn Cress, Delsie Smith and Ruth Julian (Perry) all of Salisbury, brother-in-law, Fred Carter of Kannapolis, sister-in-law, Kathleen Stirewalt of China Grove, six grandchildren; Jimmy Morrow, Justin Carter, Candace Duke, Sara Pless, Lisa Eudy and Michelle Schneider, 17 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews also survive. A Memorial Service to celebrate her life will be held 7:00 P.M. Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at Whitley's Funeral Home Annex Chapel conducted by Glenn Lyles. The family will speak with friends as they depart the Chapel. At other times they will be at their respective residences. In Lieu of flowers the family request that memorials be made to the Humane Society of Cabarrus County, 2010 Wilshire Ct SW, Concord, NC 28025.
