Obituary: Doris Clark Hurst, 88, of Kannapolis, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, January 27, 2019 from CMC-NorthEast after a brief illness. Her death was unexpected. Her funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, February 2 at Lakeview Baptist Church, with Rev. Jeff Cole officiating. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. Her family will receive friends at the church on Saturday, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM prior to the funeral. Doris was born March 29, 1930 in Lexington GA, a daughter of the late Thomas and Gladys Brooks Clark. She was the last surviving of eight siblings. In addition to her parents Doris was preceded in death by her brothers, Dorsey, Parks, Curtis and Bobby Clark, her sisters, Myrtle Atwell, Cristene Wood and Tommie Jo Campbell. Doris was also preceded in death by her husband, William Fulton Hurst and her daughter, Billie Joe Galloway. Doris was a longtime area resident and graduate of Cannon High School. She was an active member of Lakeview (Lane St.) Baptist Church. In early years, Doris worked out of her home as an in-house childcare giver. Later she went to work for Cannon Mills and then worked as a CNA in the home healthcare industry, until she retired. Doris loved her Lord Jesus and was a huge Panthers fan. She would amuse her family with her attempts at the "Dab" and her love of Cam Newton's fashion sense. Doris was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother. She was a true blessing to her family and will be dearly missed. Those left behind to cherish her memory include her daughters, Penny Hurst of Thomasville and Candy Smith (John) of Davidson, her grandchildren; Amber, Todd and Brian Widenhouse, Dustin Smith (Megan) and Cody Smith, her "special great-grandson" Jayden Waller, her step-children, Sandra Miller and Richard Bond and numerous loving step-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
