Dorothy Allen Beard

Obituary: Kannapolis, NC- Dorothy Allen Beard, age 101, passed away on September 12th at Huntersville Oaks Nursing Home after a period of declining health. She was born January 13, 1915 in Georgia, the daughter of the late George J. Allen and Ida Jane Adams Allen. She was employed with the former Cannon Mills Company, Plant One, Sheet Dept. for approx. twenty years until her retirement. She was a life-long member of Centerview Baptist Church, Kannapolis, NC where she had taught Sunday school, a member of a Women's Circle, enjoyed singing in the choir, was on the Bereavement Committee, and active in the church's Wednesday morning prayer group. She was the loving wife of William Tillman Beard and they were married for fifty-four years prior to his death. In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by one brother, Guy Allen; his wife, Willie Allen; and three sisters, Bessie Allen Scott, Retha Allen Chastline, and Phoebe Allen Goodall. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sat. at Centerview Baptist Ch., Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Willie Rash and Rev. Charlie Littlejohn. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis, NC. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2:00 P.M. prior to the service at the church.. Survivors include her children, Brenda Beard Bostian & husband, Steven W. Bostian of Gastonia, NC, Barbara Beard Sechler & husband, John of China Grove, NC, and William T. (Bill) Beard & wife, Caroline of Pensacola, FL; five grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and a number of very special nieces and nephews.
