Dorothy Selma (Patterson) Bower

Dorothy Selma Patterson Bower, 99, of Concord, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, October 11, 2023.

Dorothy was born in Morris Run, PA on June 27, 1924 to the late Andrew Patterson and Elvira Swanson Patterson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Elwood Carol Bower Sr.; a daughter, Nancy D. Bower Williams; a granddaughter, Kimberly Bower, and all of her siblings.

Dorothy worked as a manager at J.C. Penney for seven years. She was also a homemaker who was lovingly devoted to her family. She had a special place in her heart for her cats over the years Blackie, Big Kitty, Mavis, Taz and Izzy. She enjoyed decorating the home, sewing, and was the secretary of a Garden Club in Raleigh. During retirement, she loved taking trips in the RV with her husband, family, and friends.

Those left to cherish her memory include two children, Elwood “Woody” (Jean) Carl Bower Jr. and Susan (Jan) D. Bower; four grandchildren, Jennifer (Trent) Shoun, Brooks (Edward) Thurston, Michael (Patricia) Williams, and Chase (Misty) Dunn; six great-grandchildren, Nicholas Bower, Savannah LaBlanc, Taylor Shoun, Alston Williams, Caleb Williams, and Ezekiel Dunn.

The family will celebrate Dorothy’s life privately.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
