Obituary: Dorothy Pethel Dearmon died peacefully at her home Thursday, February 11, 2016. She was born August 31, 1923 in Kannapolis, N. C. to the late Carl B. Pethel and Connie Peck Pethel. The family lived on Center Grove Road, now Dale Earnhardt Blvd. She graduated from J. W. Cannon High School in 1940 and worked at Cannon Mills for a short time. She married Norris Dearmon at high noon on April 4, 1942, a marriage that lasted almost 74 years. She retired from A. L. Brown after 20 years of service as the banker where she handled all of their finances. She was a life long active member of Kimball Memorial Lutheran Church. She was a teacher and superintendent of the Primary Department of the Sunday School, a member of the Elizabeth Huddle Circle and opened and maintained the church History Room. She was a wonderful mother and homemaker raising 4 children and adored her time with them. Her love for her flower beds, quilting and sewing was also a very important part of her life. She is survived by her husband Norris Dearmon of Kannapolis, two sons Mark Dearmon of Raleigh and Eric Dearmon and his wife Cheryl of Kannapolis, two daughters Teresa Erwin of Concord and Connie Long of Durham, five grandsons, Christopher and Kevin Dearmon, Adam and Andrew Erwin and his wife Heather and Bryan Long, three great-grand children Mason and Madden Erwin and Marley Dearmon. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, February 14, 2016 at Kimball Memorial Lutheran Church officiated by Rev. Loyd Ginn. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Saturday at Whitley's Funeral Home.
