Obituary: Dorothy McCoy "Dot" Critz, 88, of Kannapolis passed away on Friday, Feb. 8, 2013. She was born June 2, 1924 in Cabarrus County, the daughter of the late Sank Sam "S.S." McCoy and Jennie Howard McCoy. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Gaither Critz on Sept. 20, 1973 whom she married in 1945. She was a graduate of Cannon High School, Class of 1941. She received her secretarial degree from Queens College. She worked at Cannon Mills as a secretary until 1948, when she became a full time homemaker. She worked for a short time at the Kannapolis Visitors Center, before beginning work at Five Oaks Within a few years; she became the nursing home Administrator and a member of the Board of Directors. Five Oaks dedicated a "new" wing to her for her dedication and service to the facility and community. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. Dot enjoyed traveling, knitting and needlework. She enjoyed the outdoors, especially bird watching, flowers, and gardening. A funeral service will be held at 4:00 PM Monday, Feb. 11, 2013 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel officiated by Rev. Harold Bales. Entombment will be at Carolina Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 3 to 4 prior at Whitley's. She is survived by her daughter, Judy Starnes (Guy), her son, Robert "Bob" Critz (Judy), two grandsons, Carter Critz (Angela) and Jake Critz, 6 great-grandchildren, her sister, Sammie Long (Luke) and a number of nieces and nephews.
