Dorothy Baker Griffith

Obituary: Concord, NC- Pearl Dorothy Baker Griffith, age 95, went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, August 21, 2012 at Tucker Hospice House, Kannapolis, NC after a period of declining health. She was born March 29, 1917 in Wayne County, Michigan, the daughter of the late Bert Baker and Olive Sweet Baker. In earlier years Dorothy was employed with a printing company in Highland Park, MI. After moving to NC she worked for the former Cannon Mills Company for a short period of time. Dorothy was a member for 40 years at Poplar Grove Baptist Church, Concord, NC where she was a Sunday School teacher. Her hobbies included needlepoint, camping, and working crossword puzzles. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Wilber R. Griffith who died August 2, 2012; four brothers; and two sisters. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 25, 2012 at Whitley's Funeral Home Main Chapel; Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Jimmy Barrett. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis, NC. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Friday, August 24, 2012 at the funeral home. Survivors include her children, Delores Griffith of Concord, NC, Wesley Griffith of Rochester Hills, MI, Earl Griffith of Conover, NC, James Griffith of China Grove, NC, and Verna Jean Coley of Warwick, NC; thirteen grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one sister, Marion Sonier of Phoenix, AZ.
