Dorothy Mildred Wilhelm Helms

Obituary: Kannapolis, NC- Dorothy Mildred Wilhelm Helms, age 93, passed away on Wednesday, December 16, 2015 at Caremoor Retirement Center, Kannapolis, NC after a period of declining health. She was born October 20, 1922 in Rowan County, NC, the daughter of the late Thomas Alexander Wilhelm and Willie Ila Ennis Wilhelm. Dot was employed with the former Cannon Mills Company, Plant One, Towel Inspection Dept. for twenty-eight years until her retirement in 1987. She was a member of Jackson Park United Methodist Church, Kannapolis, NC where she was active in the Gladys Nelson Sunday School Class, the Women's Circle, and the Jet-Setters Senior Citizens Club for many years. She enjoyed travel, baking, and was known for making the best pimento cheese sandwiches for her family and friends. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Hubert Max Helms who died in 1996; and her son, Terry Helms died in 2008. The funeral service to celebrate her life will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, December 21, 2015 at Jackson Park United Methodist Church, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Dr. Greg Gordon. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis, NC. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 PM Monday at the church prior to the service. Survivors include her daughters, Brenda Dry & husband, Felix of San Jacinto, CA and Cassandra (Sandy) Lumsden Lakeland, FL; and a daughter-in-law, Janice Helms of Greensboro, NC; a brother, John Wilhelm of Kannapolis, NC; six grandchildren, Todd Dry, Timothy Dry, Tracy Johnson, Michelle Johnson Leach, Crystal Helms Henderson, and Donna Helms VanLeuvan; fourteen great-grandchildren, Justin Dry, Kaitlyn Dry, Joshua Dry, Kayla VanLeuvan, Breanna VanLeuvan, Kade Henderson, Olivia Henderson, Joseph Henderson, Tyler Leach, Caleb Leach, Anthony Johnson, Jarrod Johnson, Elijah Johnson, and Timothy Johnson. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Jackson Park United Methodist Church, 715 Mable Avenue, Kannapolis, NC 28081.
