Dorothy Louise (Owens) Vinson

May 4, 1931 — September 16, 2023

Kannapolis

Dorothy Louise Owens Vinson, 92, of Kannapolis, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 16, 2023 at Liberty Commons in Salisbury.

Dorothy was born on May 4, 1931 in Cabarrus county. She was a cherished daughter of the late Willie G. Owens and Clara Knight Owens. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Joseph “Joe” T. Vinson and her siblings, Rachel L. White, Virginia M. Gainey, and Ned Eugene Owens.

Dorothy had a heart as big as the sky and a spirit that would lend a hand to anyone in need. She had a unique gift of making everyone feel cherished, with a kind word, a warm hug, or a listening ear. Her generosity knew no bounds, and she lived her life helping others, just as God intended.

Christmas was Dorothy's favorite time of year, and family gatherings held a special place in her heart. Those memories of warmth and togetherness will forever be cherished.

And let's not forget her famous chicken and dumplings! They were more than just a meal; they were a taste of her love and care, served generously to all who came to her table.

Her faith was the rock upon which she built her life, and she lived as a shining example of a Christian lady. She showed the power of love and faith in action, and her legacy will continue to inspire others. She was a second mother to everyone and will truly missed by all who knew her.

Those left to cherish her memory include her nieces and nephews, William “Sunny” Owens, Joyce Roth (Doug), Robert F. “Farrell” Dixon, Jackie Lewis (Earl), Tammy Dixon (James), Billy Owen, Penny Wiles, and Scott Owens (Kelly); she was also blessed with many other loving family members that filled her heart with joy.

The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 pm on Thursday, September 21, 2023 at Whitley’s Funeral Home in Kannapolis. A graveside service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Carolina Memorial Park in Kannapolis with Rev. Don Burleson officiating.

The family welcomes flowers, but for those who prefer, memorials may be made to Liberty Hospice, 5 East Main Street, Thomasville, NC 27360.
