Obituary: Dorothy (Dot) Triece Massey, age 96, died Wednesday, May 26, 2010 at the Carriage House of Caremoor Retirement Center, Kannapolis, NC. She was born May 2, 1914 in Cabarrus County, NC, the daughter of the late John Roy Triece and Donier Pearce Triece. She was actually born in Glass, NC which is now part of the midway section of the City of Kannapolis. She was a homemaker all of her life and had been an active member of Center Grove Lutheran Church, Kannapolis, NC where she had taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, participated in Vacation Bible School, and the Girl Scout Program for many years. In earlier years she was involved with a home extension club serving as president and other offices for 50 years. Dot also worked at the Cabarrus County Fair for 40 years, volunteered with the American Red Cross, and was a registrar with a voting precinct for many years. She also found time to volunteer with the Old Courthouse Theatre. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, F.B. (Whit) Massey, who died July 11, 2002; two brothers, John Boyd Triece, Browdis Triece; and one sister, Melba Triece Perkins. The funeral service will be 3:00 P.M. Saturday, May 29, 2010 at Center Grove Lutheran Church, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Loyd Guinn. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis, NC. The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 3:00 P.M. Saturday at the church prior to the service. At other times the family will be at the family home, 306 Cook Street, Kannapolis, NC the remainder of the time. Survivors include her son, Browdis Gene Massey of Concord, NC; two daughters, Janelle Massey Murray & husband, Jimmy and Jan Massy Query and husband, Richard, both of Kannapolis, NC; five grandchildren, Kimberly Baucom, Andrew Graham and wife, Pon, Michael Murray, John Query, and Pamela Query Newton; seven great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank the staff of Carriage House of Caremoor Retirement Center for their love and support during the time she had lived there.
