Dorothy Ray Murray Phillips, 94, of Gold Hill went home to be with her Heavenly Father on Saturday, November 13, 2021, at her daughter’s residence following a period of declining health.
Dorothy was born December 6, 1926 in Madison County, Ga., a daughter of the late Hiram Fleming and Annie Ruth Byrd Murray. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Dwain Daniel Phillips in 1988, a daughter, Dottie Delanie Benton, a sister, Ruby Brooks and a grandson, Jolly Benton, II.
Dorothy had retired from Cannon Mills, Plt. #1, wash cloth Dept. with 43 years of service. She was a 58 year member of Message Community Church where she had taught Sunday school, Bible School and Children’s Church for many years. She had also worked for the Cherokee Mission.
A graveside service will be held 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, November 16, 2021 at Carolina Memorial Park conducted by Rev. Ed Burns. A representative of the family will receive visitors at Whitley’s Funeral Home Monday, November 15, 2021 from 5:00 P.M.-7:00 P.M.
Family members surviving include a daughter, Becky Turner (Neal) of Kannapolis, two grandchildren, Victor Phillips (Jennifer) of Gold Hill, and Chris Turner of Dysartville, N.C.
She is also survived by four great grandchildren; Dustin Phillips (Elizabeth) of China Grove, Robbie Bryant of Gold Hill, Diamond Phillips of Gold Hill, and Terrie Phillips of Gold Hill. Also surviving is a son–in-law Ray Benton of Gold Hill.
The family requests that any memorials be sent to the Message Community Church, Youth Program, 1008 Moose Rd, Kannapolis, NC 28083.
