Obituary: Dorothy "Dot" Nancy Graham Shoemake, 82, of Big Elm Nursing and Retirement Center of Kannapolis and formerly of 2201 Brookside Ave., Kannapolis died on Jan. 10, 2010 at Big Elm Nursing Center. She was born on April 1, 1927 in Chesterfield Co., SC, the daughter of the late Alexander Graham and the late Marjorie Stafford Graham. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Shoemake is preceded in death by a son, Phillip Marion Shoemake , 3 sisters Christine Currie, Donnie Graham and Flora Dell Byrd and two brothers, Theodore and Paul Graham. She was a member of Landis Baptist Church and had worked for the former Cannon Mills Company where she was a Hemmer. Survivors include her husband, Kenneth Marion Shoemake of Kannapolis. One daughter, Karen Sechler and husband, Harry Lee Sechler of China Grove, NC. Two brothers, Harrison Graham of King, NC and Edward Graham of Mt. Holly, NC. By two sisters; Harriet Moore of S.C., and Lois Hubbard of Lincolnton, N.C. Also by two grandchildren, Scott Sechler and wife, Shannon & Amy Sechler and one great granddaughter, Lily Anne Sechler. The funeral for Mrs. Shoemake will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2010 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Rev. Billy Honeycutt, Jr. Burial will take place at West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove, NC. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to2:00p.m. before the service at Whitley's.
