Dorth (Duke) Thompson

Obituary: Dorth(Duke) Orl Thompson, 84, of Concord went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at Novant Health-Matthews Hospice Unit. He was born November 13, 1933 in Kanawha County, West Virginia a son of the late Albert and Velvia Harless Thompson. Dorth was a member of Roberta Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the US Air Force and the Us Marine Corps serving in Korea. After discharge he worked as a heavy equipment operator and later was a car salesman for many years. Dorth lived a full life. He had many friends and was always smiling. Funeral services for Mr. Thompson will be 3:00 P.M. Sunday, March 25, 2018 at Roberta Baptist Church, Concord conducted by Rev. Steve Pennington. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. At other times they will be at the residence. Interment will be 11:00 A.M. Monday, March 26,, 2018 at the National Cemetery, 501 Statesville Blvd. Salisbury, NC with military rites conducted by the US Marine Corps. Family members left to cherish his memory are his wife of 51 ½ years; Barbara Angel Thompson of the home, two sons, Gary Thompson and wife Yvonne of Nitro, W. Va., Joe (Tammy) Thompson of Mooresville, one daughter, Sabrina Berg (Nick) of Charlotte, one sister, Shirley Nix of Houston, TX., and one brother, Truman Thompson (Sue) of Tampa, Fl. He is also survived by six grandchildren; Zachary Miller, Matthew Griffith, Michael Griffith, Seth Griffith, Kelly Scott, and Ryan Hunt. He is also survived by five great-grandchildren. The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorials be made to Roberta Baptist Church, 3301 Roberta Rd, Concord, NC 28027. Whitley's Funeral Home is serving the family of Mr. Thompson.
