Obituary: Dotty "Delane" Phillips Benton, 70, of Gold Hill, went to her Heavenly Father from her home, Friday, June 9, 2017 after a short period of declining health. Her funeral service will be held at 4:00 PM Monday, June 12 at the Jackson Park Pentecostal Holiness Church, with Rev. Ed Burns and Rev. Mike Haynes officiating. Burial will follow at Brookhill Memorial Gardens in Rockwell. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Sunday, June 11 at Jackson Park Pentecostal Holiness Church. Delane was born June 14, 1946 in Iredell Co. NC, a daughter of the late Dwain Daniel Phillips and Dorothy Murray Phillips of Gold Hill. She was a lifelong area resident and lifelong member of Jackson Park Pentecostal Holiness Church where she taught various sunday school classes as well as being active in many church activities over the years. Delane graduated from A. L. Brown HS, Class of 1964 and then North State Business College. She worked for Cannon Mills Plant 1 in the sheet department, later as a seamstress at Carolina Maid in Granite Quarry, and then in the deli department at various Food Lion Stores. She owned and operated Ward's Bakery for 12 years until retirement. Delane loved to cook and can foods. She enjoyed traveling and family trips to the beach.Delane was a loving and devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend. She will be dearly missed. Survivors include her husband of 51 years, Charles Ray Benton of the home, her son, Charles Ray "Jolly" Benton II (Kristy) and her mother Dorothy M. Phillips, all of Gold Hill, her sister Becky Turner (Neal) of Kannapolis and a number of nieces and nephews.
