Douglas Brodas Laney, Sr.

Obituary: Douglas Brodas Laney Sr., 75, of 1110 Moss Ave. Kannapolis died Monday Sept. 7, 2009 at VA Hospital in Asheville. He was born December 5, 1933 in Union County the son of the late Charlie and Lillie Mills Laney. He was also preceded in death by a son Douglas Brodas Laney Jr. He was retired from Fieldcrest Cannon Inc where he had worked in the overhauling department. He was a veteran of the US Army serving in the Korean War. He earned the Good Conduct medal, National Defense Service medal, Korean Service medal, and the United Nations Service medal. He was a member of the VFW. In earlier years he owned and drove a Sno-ball truck in Kannapolis and he also enjoyed riding motorcycles. A graveside service will be at 12:00 (noon) on Friday Sept. 11, 2009 at West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove officiated by Rev. Wayne Hall with military honors. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:30 AM Friday at Whitley's Funeral Home prior to the service. He is survived by his wife Martha Head Laney, 4 children: Robert Laney and wife Reba of Morristown, Tn., Roger Laney and wife Edna of China Grove, Richard Laney and wife Maggie of Morristown, Tn., and Milas Laney of Kannapolis, 7 grandchildren:Dewayne Laney, Shane Laney, Richard Douglas Laney, Sherry Cline, James Robert Laney, Michael Laney and Shannon Laney, 2 great-grandchildren, and his sister Patsy Hartsell and husband Lane. Memorials may be made to W.G. Hefner VA Medical Center 1601 Brenner Ave. Salisbury, NC 28144.
Visitation: 10:00 to 11:30 AM, Friday, September 11, 2009, at Whitley's Funeral Home

Service: Graveside service at 12:00 (noon) on Friday, September 11,2009, at West Lawn Memorial Park

Interment: West Lawn Memorial Park, China Grove, NC
