Dr. Stephen Mabry Snipes

Dr. Stephen Mabry Snipes passed away November 9th at the age of 82. He served the Asheboro and Concord areas for over 40 years as a Doctor of Optometry as owner of both Asheboro Optical Center and Contact Lens and Spectacle Shop.

Born December 5, 1941, Stephen was the son of the late Clarence and Jeanette Snipes. 

He is preceded in death by his wife, Meda Wiser Snipes. He is survived by 2 daughters, Stephanie Snipes King of Concord, NC and Clarissa Snipes Fowler of Tega Cay, SC, and 5 grandchildren, Alexandra Byrd, Lindsey King, Andrew King, Lauren Fowler, and Caitlyn Fowler, and one great grandchild. Stephen will also be lovingly remembered by his longtime friend and companion, Elizabeth Spencer of Greensboro, NC. 

Stephen had a great love of animals and had many pets over the years. He will be missed by his cherished dog, Mattie.

Stephen served honorably in the Air Force as an Administrative Officer and attained the rank of Captain. He served in San Antonio, Texas; Minot, North Dakota; and the Philippines for four years during the Vietnam conflict.

The family has requested in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to your local animal rescue services to honor his love for animals. Graveside services will be held at Carolina Memorial Park Thursday, November 14th at 11:00 am. Online condolences may be left at www.whitleysfuneralhome.com.
