Obituary: Duane Allan Scully, age 52, passed away on Wednesday, October 14, 2015 at the home of a friend, Cathy Fink, Stanley, NC. He was born July 29, 1963 in Polk County, MN, the son of Mertle Sterger Scully and the late Roy R. Scully. Duane was employed for many years in construction especially as a brick mason. He built many restaurants, schools, and churches over time. His friends described him as hard-working, dedicated and took pride in his work. He was also thought of as a person who would always help you out if in need. In his earlier years he was raised in the Catholic faith in Minnesota and moved to the Carolinas many years ago. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 5:00 PM Saturday, October 17, 2015 at Whitley's Funeral Home Main Chapel, Kannapolis, NC. Burial will be at a later date. The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 5:00 PM Saturday at the funeral home prior to the service. Survivors include his siblings, Dan Duquette (Karin) of Gentilly, MN; Karen Lawson (John) of Salisbury, NC; Kathryn Swenson (Kim) of Fertle, MN; Korene Maynard (Steve) of Statesville, NC; and Dale Scully (Roxanne) of Faith, NC; two special friends, Cathy Fink and Jackie Gantt, both of Stanley, NC; and a number of nieces & nephews. Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice. On-line condolences may be left at www.whitleysfuneralhome.com.
