Obituary: Dwight C. Kerley, 97, of Kannapolis passed away on Sunday, October 16, 2016 at Big Elm Nursing Center. He was born February 6, 1919 in Alexander County, a son of the late Rom Z. Kerley and Fannie Mae Blackwelder Kerley. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Johnson Kerley, brothers, Maynard and Ralph Kerley, and sisters, Pauline Dancy and Lucille Walker. Dwight retired from Cannon Mills after 43 years where he worked in the Slasher room. He was a member of Centerview Baptist Church. Dwight was a veteran of the US Army Air Corps where he served during WW II. In his earlier years, he and his wife enjoyed going to church, gospel singings and fishing. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel officiated by Rev. William Rash. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 PM prior at Whitley's. He is survived by his sister, Margie Hardy, brother, Rom Kerley and many nieces and nephews.
