Obituary: Kannapolis- Dwight Leigh McBride, 84, passed away unexpectedly Saturday evening, January 19, 2019, at his home. Born October 5, 1934 in Washington County, PA, he was a son of the late Harry and Martha Mowl McBride. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Robert McBride and his sister, Mildred McBride. Dwight earned his M.B.A. from Northern Illinois University, earlier obtaining his M.S. in Library Science from Case-Western Reserve University and his B.A. from Ohio Wesleyan University. He had proudly served his country as Captain in the U.S. Air Force, and was an aircraft commander of a C-124 heavy transport aircraft. Mr. McBride's leisure was filled with his love of playing racquetball every week, working at RCCC, gardening, and spending time with his family. He was very active in the Landis American Legion and in his church, Mt. Olivet United Methodist. A loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend of many, Mr. McBride will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Loving family members include his wife, Sandra Boring McBride; his daughters, Meredith McBride and Diane Green (Chris); his grandchildren, Gabe and Luke Dulin, and Hannah and Emma Green; and niece Marjorie Misang McBride. The family will receive friends Wednesday, January 23rd from 1:00-2:00 PM at Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church. Services to remember and celebrate the life of Mr. McBride will begin at 2:00 PM in the church, conducted by Rev. Cheryl Skinner. Burial will follow in the church cemetery, with military honors.
