Obituary: On Feb 10, 2019 Dwight Lee Walker, age 85, died peacefully in his home. Dwight was born on May 13, 1933 in Kannapolis, N.C. to Luther Cylvester Walker and Mabel Riley Walker. He attended Kannapolis schools and joined the U.S. Air Force in 1951, serving in various locations including French Morocco. He returned home in 1954, served in the Reserves and received an Honorable Discharge in 1959. Dwight worked for various trucking companies, mostly as a long distance driver, and retired from Consolidated Freightways in November of 1994 after driving millions of miles over the course of his career. He was a fun loving man, very proud of his Irish heritage and enjoyed times spent with family and the camaraderie with his good friends. He kept all of us laughing with his antics. Dwight was also a long time Duke basketball fan. He is survived by his daughter, Melissa W. Arroyo (Blas) of Charlotte, son Brian Walker (Judy) of Greensboro, son Eric Walker (Candi) of Harrisburg, grandson Andrew Arroyo (Kristen) of Charlotte, granddaughters Lesley Arroyo (Ben Johnson) of St. Petersburg, FL and Harlie Walker of Harrisburg, and great-grandson Bodhi Arroyo. Dwight was preceded in death by his parents and brother Luther Howard (Buddy) Walker. A service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 16, 2019 at Kimball Memorial Lutheran Church in Kannapolis.Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends prior from 10:00 to 10:45 AM at church. Whitley's Funeral Home is handling arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Kimball Memorial, 101 Vance Avenue, Kannapolis, NC 28081. The family gratefully acknowledges the support of Pastor Futterer throughout this time.
