Obituary: Earl W. Cornell, 69, of Kannapolis, North Carolina and formerly of Hoopeston, Illinois passed away at his home on October 13, 2011. Earl was born January 11, 1942 in Rossville, IL, the son of the late Harold and Mary Kelly Cornell. He attended Rossville High School and Eastern Illinois University. Earl worked at FMC Corporation in Hoopeston as the Traffic Manager and Shipping Supervisor for 36 years before retiring in 1998 and moving to Kannapolis. He loved basketball and was a volunteer at Hoopeston High School Boys and Girls basketball games as a scorekeeper and timer for 12 years. He coached Hoopeston's Summer League basketball for both boys and girls. Earl also volunteered with the Hoopeston Swim Team as a starter and timer and was a member of the Hoopeston United Methodist Church, Northfork Conservation Club, Vermilion County Traffic Managers Association, and Hubbard Trail Country Club. He co-owned K's Hair Design Studio on West Orange Street in Hoopeston with his wife for 15 years where he was the bookkeeper and maintenance repairman. After moving to Kannapolis, Earl became a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and the Hinnant Sunday School Class. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping with family and friends.He is survived by his loving wife of fifty years, Kathryn Weber Cornell, two children Chris (Alexis) Cornell of Palm Beach Gardens, FL and Anna Lu (Scott) Wilson of Concord, NC; four grandchildren, Noelle D'Andrade, Alexandra Cornell, Rori and Reece Wilson, his five siblings, Tom (Eva) Cornell, of Rossville, IL; Jerry (Christine) Cornell, Danville, IL; Peggy Cornell Cleinmark, Elgin, IL; Lon Cornell, Charlotte, NC; Ron (Terri) Cornell, Rossville, IL; one special sister-in-law Judie Kelsheimer and several nieces and nephews.A service to celebrate Earl's life will be held at the Hoopeston United Methodist Church on November 4th, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. The family will receive friends following the service. A private burial at Mann's Chapel will be held at a later date.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Coltrane L.I.F.E. Center, Concord, NC or Hospice of Cabarrus County, NC.
