Obituary: - Earl Ketner, age 91, passed away on Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at Lexington Health Care Center, Lexington, NC after a period of declining health. He grew up in the Kannapolis/Rowan County, NC area. He was born on March 26, 1922 in Rowan County, NC, the son of the late Guy Ketner and Effie Mae Troutman Ketner. Earl had been employed with the former Winn-Dixie Stores in N.C. for many years and retired as manager of the Winn-Dixie on Center Street in Lexington in 1983. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during World War II. He and his late wife were former residents of the Arbor Acres Community and he was a former member of the Lexington Lions Club. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Elizabeth Griffith Ketner in 1992; two brothers; two sisters; and a great-granddaughter, Ashley Nicole Wyrick. A graveside service will be held at 2:30 P.M. Saturday, January 11, 2014 at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Pastor Matt Miller. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 P.M. Saturday at Whitley's Funeral Home, Kannapolis, NC prior to the service. Survivors include his daughter, Brenda Ketner Warren of Liberty, NC; his son, Stephen Earl Ketner & partner, Charm Cecil of Lexington, NC; a loving companion of many years, Veny Garren; five grandchildren, Pam Payne & husband, Mark; Sharon Carpenter & husband, Greg; Michelle Ketner; Sarah Williams & husband, Rodney; Jennifer Brinkley & husband, Philip; six great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
