Obituary: Earl Pressley Wagoner, 80, of Salisbury went to be with the Lord on Friday, February 14, 2014 at his residence following a period of declining health. He was born September 21 1933 in Iredell County, NC a son of the late Clarence Burton and Lola Mae Sherrill Wagner. Earl was of the Baptist Faith. He was employed at Cannon Mills in the machine shop for 35 years and later was with Tuscarora Yarns. He was a Veteran serving with the US Air Force and the Marine Corps. Earl loved to play softball, work on cars and travel to the beach. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Elizabeth Donehue Wagoner in 2010. A brother, James Clarence Wagoner and two sisters, Nellie Jean Steele and Peggy Carolyn Orbison also preceded him in death. Survivors include three daughters: Diane DeVeau (Jim), Donna Baker (Curtis) and Paula Burgess (Chris) all of Rockwell, two step-sons, Dale and Darrell Drye both of Salisbury, brother, Richard Wagoner of Rockwell, seven grandchildren; Ashley Hartsell, Jamie DeVeau, Matthew Baker, Cameron Drye, Jacque Thomas, Ryann Baker and Alan Burgess. Four great- grandchildren; Brody and Porter Thomas and Olivia and Cora Hartsell also survive. Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Rev. Nathan Hammill. Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park with military graveside rites conducted by the Rowan County Honor Guard. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday, February 17, 2014 from 6:00-8:00 P.M. At other times they will be at the residence of a daughter, Diane DeVeau.
