Edgar Lee Johnston, Sr.

Obituary: Edgar Lee Johnston Sr., 75, of Davidson passed away on Thursday, October 17, 2013. He was born September 19, 1938 in Cabarrus County, the son of the late Mason Sanford Johnston and Mary Emma Black Johnston. He was veteran of the US Navy serving from 1956-60. He had lived in Key West, Florida for over 50 years moving back here in 2011.He retired from Prudential Life Insurance Company where he was an agent for over 30 years. He enjoyed flying radio controlled airplanes, racquetball and watching Kannapolis Intimidators Baseball. A graveside service will be held at 3:45 PM Sunday, Oct. 20th at Gilwood Presbyterian Church Cemetery officiated by Rev. J. Alan Buckner and military rites by the Cabarrus Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 3:45 PM prior in the church sanctuary. He is survived by his wife, Ercelia Johnston, three children; Sharon Lee Angelastri, Lynn Marie O'Connor and Edgar Lee Johnston, Jr., four grandchildren; Monica Garcia-Hudson, Rachel Garcia, Anthony Richard Diamandi, Ashley Angelastri, three great grandchildren; Anthony Diamandi, August Hutson, William Michael Hoffman and two sisters, Jane Tate and Mary Elizabeth Baugh. Memorials may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Pl, Memphis, TN 38105, and/or Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675 and/or Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 26 Broadway, 14th Floor, New York, NY 10004.
