Edith (Edie) Blalock

Obituary: Edith "Edie" Owen Blalock went to her Heavenly Home on November 25, 2017 from St. Andrews Living Center. She was born on June 8, 1930 in Greensboro NC. Her parents were the late Oscar Millard Owen and Annie Lee Lowdermilk Owen. She was also preceded in death by her loving husband Luther Richard Blalock and son Steven Lee Blalock; and her brothers Elvin Lee Owen, James Vernon "Lefty" Owen, and Claude Thomas Owen Sr. A celebration of life service will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday, November 29 at Westford United Methodist Church in Concord officiated by Rev. Jeffrey Rushing. The family will receive friends at the Church from 3-4 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will be on Thursday, November 30 at 11 a.m. at Westminster Gardens in Greensboro NC. Edie was a lovingly dedicated wife, mother, teacher and friend. In her early years, she worked at Southern Life Insurance Company in Greensboro. When she started her family, she became a full time homemaker until they all were in school, and she then became a teacher assistant for Kannapolis City Schools in the Exceptional Children Education Department. In her leisure time she played bridge, was in the Garden Club, and she especially enjoyed flower arranging and interior decorating. She was always active in her churches both in Greensboro and Kannapolis where she sang in the choir and was an active circle member. She is survived by her daughters, Betty B. McCombs (Kenny) of Kannapolis, Patti B. Wise (Steve) of Concord and son Richard O. Blalock (Michelle) of Kannapolis. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Brett (Chante) McCombs, Steven McCombs, Shane Blalock, Jonathan McClellan, Curtis Wise, Maddie Wise, and Megan Blalock; and one precious great grandson, Kellan McCombs. Also surviving are her sisters Louise Owen Hill, Ruth Owen Watson, and Lois Owen Craven, and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the wonderful and caring staff at Morningside Assisted Living and St. Andrews Living Center. A special thanks to her Community Home Care & Hospice nurses Lee and Tanya.
