Obituary: Edith Irene Downum Bost, 86, of Kannapolis, passed away Saturday, December 31, 2016 at NE Medical Center. She was born May 6, 1930 in Cabarrus Co. to the late James Monroe and Betty Haynes Downum. Edith worked at Cannon Mills Plant #1 and #7 for 20 years in the weave room, she then became a CNA and worked another 23 years in the nursing field. She loved flowers, gardening, sewing, and jigsaw puzzles. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Earl Bost, five sisters, Bernice Sides, Dorothy Stone, Mary Moore, Viola McClure, Lula Murry, and two brothers, Robert Downum and J.C. Blackwelder. Those left to cherish her memory are, four sons, Ray Downum of Kannapolis, Gene Downum (Sarah) of Charlotte, David Honeycutt (Patricia) of Kannapolis, Henry Lee Bost (June Hill Clements) of Salisbury, one daughter, Elizabeth Bost Sloop (Ricky) of Rockwell, four grandchildren, Michael Honeycutt (Jamie Lynn), Jennifer Honeycutt, Kendra Sloop (Ricky), Candace Sloop (Mario), four great grandchildren, Connor Honeycutt, Rachael Honeycutt, Braxton Sloop, and Presley Honeycutt. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday (Jan. 10) at Eastwood Baptist Church with Rev. Randall Richie and Rev. JR Beaver officiating, burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Friday at Whitley's Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Eastwood Baptist Church, 320 Cook St. Kannapolis, NC 28083.
