Obituary: Edith Dayvault Funderburke Dunham, age 88, formerly of Kannapolis but had lived several years at the Lutheran Nursing Home, died Tuesday, December 29, 2009 at the Lutheran Nursing Home, Salisbury, NC after several years of declining health. She was born May 14, 1921 in Cabarrus County, NC, the daughter of the late James A. Dayvault and Grace Viola Beaver Dayvault. She had lived in the area for most of her life. She was a member of a pioneer Kannapolis family. She was employed with the former Cannon Mills Company, Plt.#1 PillowCase Dept. for 20 years until her retirement in the mid-1980's. She was a member of North Kannapolis Wesleyan Church, Kannapolis, NC where she was active in the Elizabeth Tipton Circle where she had served as president at one time, the Best Years Fellowship group, the Ruth Sunday School Class, and as a communion assistant. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her 1st husband, William White Funderburke who died April 23, 1949; her 2nd husband, Thomas L. Dunham who died August 3, 1978; her brother, James Harold Dayvault, and her sister, Jennie Louise (Dick) Martin. The funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 1, 2010 at North Kannapolis, Wesleyan Church, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Steve Beam. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery, China Grove, NC. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Thursday, December 31, 2009 at Whitley's Funeral Home. Survivors include her children, William G. Funderburke & wife, Joyce of Landis, NC, James S. Funderburke & wife, Rose M. of Kannapolis, NC, and Pat Cavin & husband, James of Enochville, NC, Tommy Dunham, his friend, Charlotte, and family of Kannapolis, NC, and Kathy Sims and fiancee, Dave Gotham of Kannapolis, NC; Ten grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; Memorials may be made to North Kannapolis Wesleyan Church, 314 W. 12th Street, Kannapolis, NC 28081.
