Edith "LaVerne" Stamey, 83, formerly of Kannapolis passed away peacefully January 20, 2021 at her residence in Mooresville, NC surrounded by her loving family, after a period of declining health.
She was born on March 9, 1937 in Rowan Co., a daughter of the late John Oliver and Pearl Dobson Vinson. In addition to her parents, Edith is preceded in death by four siblings.
LaVerne was a lifelong area resident and longtime member of Bethpage United Methodist Church. She was founder of Hair Technics in Kannapolis in the '70's and worked until her health prevented her in 2018
LaVerne is survived by her husband of 66 years, Odell Stamey, Jr. and her son, Van Stamey, both of the family home, her daughter, Robbi Stamey of Connecticut, her grandchildren; Jared Allen Stamey, Jessica Lauren Stamey and Charles "Tripp" Ray Reid III. LaVerne is also survived by 2 great-grandchildren and her three sisters; Faye Hargett of Concord, Betty Osborne of Norwood and Martha Stroup of GA.
A service to celebrate her life will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, January 23 at Whitley’s Funeral Home in Kannapolis with Rev. Sam Lewis officiating. Burial will follow at Bethpage UMC cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 to 2:00 PM before the service.
