Obituary: Edna "Nanny" Burris Ketner, 87, passed away Thursday, September 17, 2015 at Tucker Hospice House following a courageous battle with cancer. Born April 6, 1928 in Rowan County, she was a daughter of the late Green Thomas and Etta Mae Mabe Burris. Edna had retired from Cannon Mills and was a member of Main Street Baptist Church in China Grove. She loved raising flowers, canning, baking and helping to raise her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was well known for her banana pudding, potato salad and raw apple nut cake. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Ketner in 1972 and a daughter, Alice Pethel in 2011. Family members left with cherished memories include her daughter, Joyce Fowler and husband Wayne, of China Grove; her brothers Herbert, Larry, Charlie and Bill Burris; sisters, Cora and Flora Honbarger; grandchildren, Brian Eller (Jenny) and Jodi Hedrick (Chad); and her great-grandchildren, Madison, Matthew, Justin, Jakob, Amanda and Allyson. The family will receive friends Saturday, September 19 from 5:00-7:00 pm at Whitley's Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held at 2:30 pm Sunday, September 20 in the funeral home chapel, conducted by the Revs. Billy Beaver, Dean Beaver and Larry Beaver. Burial will follow at Ebenezer Lutheran Church. Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Cabarrus County, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC 28081.
