Edward Andrew “Butch” Childers, 78, of Concord died Sunday, April 24, 2022. His death was unexpected.
A memorial service to celebrate Butch’s life will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, May 1 at Whitley’s Funeral Home Chapel with Duane Melton officiating. Family will receive friends at the funeral home after the memorial service.
Butch was born December 20, 1943 in Cabarrus Co., a son of the late Andrew Ross Childers and Hazel Wentz Beach. In addition to his parents, Butch was preceded in death by his step-father who raised him, Hoyle Beach and Butch’s wife, Barbara Annette Furr Childers.
A lifelong area resident; Butch graduated from Hartsell High School in 1963 and was a member of Young Memorial Baptist Church in Concord. Butch worked in the trucking industry most of his life. He also built some local houses and enjoyed flying small engine aircraft. He loved to have fun and cut up, but also studied his bible and loved his Lord. He prayed for his family daily. Butch was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother. He will be dearly missed.
Those who remain, cherishing his memory include his daughters, Kimberly C. Strickland (Kenneth) of Mocksville and Kelly C. Adkins (Howard E. Adkins, Jr.) of Rockhill SC; his 5 grandchildren, Cameron and Chase Webb, Bruce Strickland, Lauren Cassidy and Brandy Boduch; his 12 great-grandchildren, Allie, Anna, Liam, Kinsley Grace, Taylin Reese, Calie, Brantly, Tristan, Lucas, Noah, Cole and Olivia. He is also survived by his sister, Linda Newell of Concord and brother, David Beach.
