Edward Eugene Church, 87, of Concord, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 14, 2023.
Ed was born on June 6, 1936 in Cabarrus county. He was a cherished son of the late Dallas Church and Mary Bost Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Cora and Zeb Bost; brother, Sherwood Church; sister, Alice Church Taylor; and Aunt Georgia Finney and Uncle Gilbert Finney.
In his early years, Ed forged a successful career in the world of life insurance, a testament to his dedication and commitment to providing for his loved ones. But, true to his adventurous spirit, he chose to retire early. Making computer portraits started out as a hobby but quickly turned into a passion. Ed was able to travel to many places with his wife, Barbara, making portraits.
Ed was a true outdoors man . Whether he was casting a line into the surf, setting up camp in the wilderness, or just soaking up the beach vibes, he was in his element.
One of Ed’s greatest joys was cultivating his own patch of paradise in the form of a thriving vegetable garden. His hands, weathered by the elements, worked the soil with care and devotion, reaping the rewards of nature's bounty.
Ed will be remembered for his love of the outdoors, his adventurous spirit, and the warmth he brought to the lives of those around him. He will be truly missed by all who knew him.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 67 years, Barbara Ludwick Church; sons, Darryl Church and Eddie Church (Donna); grandchildren, Breanna Church (Ashley), Mackenzie Holm (Zack); sister, Rachel Rydell (Teddy), and numerous loving nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 1-2:00 PM Thursday, November 16, 2023 at Whitley’s Funeral Home in Kannapolis. A funeral service will begin immediately after visitation with Rev. Ron Rider officiating. Burial will be held at Carolina Memorial Park in Kannapolis
