Edward Emerson Edwards, 88, of Kannapolis, passed away Wednesday, July 28, 2021 at Tucker Hospice. Born September 2, 1932, in Horry County, SC, he was the son of the late Wiley and Clarkie James Edwards.
During his working years, Red was a Meat Market Manager for Winn Dixie and later worked for WalMart. He was always smiling and laughing and forever will be remembered for his jovial personality. Red loved playing golf and cards. He traveled with his wife of over 50 years every chance he got. Red was always involved in the events the Presbyterian Men had. He found great joy in those things.
Red is survived by his loving wife of over 50 years, Alice Lowdermilk Edwards; two sons, Dale Edwards of Marion, SC, and Danny Emerson Edwards and wife Karen of Mullins, SC; two daughters, Diane Johansson and husband Bertil of Sweden and Scarlet White of Alabama; 18 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; a sister, Nellie Watson of Florence, SC; and two brothers, John and Jack Edwards of Aynor, SC. Aside from his parents, he was preceded in death by nine siblings.
A funeral service to honor Red’s life will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, August 2, 2021 at Whitley’s Funeral Home, Kannapolis. Pastors Dennis Craft and Debbie Madden will officiate. Interment will follow in Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Sunday, August 1, 2021 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
