Edward Arnold Helms

Obituary: Edward Arnold (Bud) Helms, age 80, passed away on Monday, February 15, 2016 at his home after a period of declining health. He was born August 26, 1935 in Cabarrus County, NC, the son of the late Oliver Leroy Helms and Essie Mae Helms. Bud was employed as a painter for many years working for various painting companies. His family remembers his love of fishing and helping people whenever he could. He had a special love for his grandchildren and was very outgoing. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by siblings, Nadine Gentry, Sadie Williams, and Leroy Helms, Jr. The funeral service to celebrate his life will be held at 1:00 PM Thursday, February 18, 2016 at Whitley's Funeral Home Main Chapel, Kannapolis, NC officiated by his great-nephew, Rev. David Helms. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery, Concord, NC. The family will receive friends from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM Thursday at the funeral home prior to the service. The family would like to say a special thank you to Dr. Anu Ha, Bayada Nursing, Dr. Delores Coughlin, and a good friend, John (Skeet) Williams for their love and care of our father, Bud, during the time of his illness. Survivors include his two daughters, Sheila Helms of Kannapolis, NC and Angela Hinson & husband, John of Salisbury, NC; two grandchildren, Misty Sikes & husband, Jeff of Rockwell, NC and John Hinson of Salisbury, NC; four great-grandchildren, Caleb, McKenzie, Keygan, and Grayson.
