Edward (Gene) Hoffner

Obituary: Edward Eugene (Gene) Hoffner, 82, passed away on Saturday, September 15, surrounded by family at the Tucker Hospice House of Kannapolis after a period of declining health. Born January 16, 1936 in Rowan County, He was the late son of Odell Hoffner and Beulah Hoffner. Gene graduated from Spencer High School and was a veteran in the US Air Force. Before retiring, he was a lineman for Duke Energy for over 30 years. Gene was a member of the first Baptist Church in China Grove. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and loved the outdoors, sports and gardening. He also, enjoyed eating breakfast with his many friends at Johnson's Restaurant every morning. Gene was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He loved watching Atlanta Braves baseball, but more than that, he enjoyed watching all his grandchildren play sports for many years. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death of four days by his wife of 57 years, Carolyn Hoffner. He is also, preceded by the death of a brother, Kenneth Hoffner; also, a great-grand daughter, Kinsley Cook. Those left to cherish their memory are their children Genia Goldston (Mark), Tina Hunter (Dale), and Keith Hoffner (Amy); and his beloved six grandchildren, Jessica Cook (Braden), Ashley Elkins (Kevin), Jarod and Jacob Raper, Eric Goldston and Sophie Hoffner and two great-grandchildren, Macy and Marlee Cook; and also a surviving brother Larry Hoffner (Teresa). The family would also like to thank the caring staff at Tucker Hospice House for all their compassion and care and also the staff and nurses from Hospice of Cabarrus County. In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Cabarrus County, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC 28081. The family will receive friends Monday, September 24th from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm at Whitley's Funeral Home. Funeral services to remember and celebrate the life of Gene will begin at 4:00 pm Monday in the funeral home chapel, conducted by Pastor David Franks.
