Edward Nathan Seltzer

Obituary: Edward Nathan Seltzer, Jr., age 87, of Kannapolis formerly of Charlotte died on March 14, 2011 in his home. He was born on March 22, 1923 in Orwigsburg, Pennsylvania. He was the son of the late Eunice Miller Seltzer and the late Edward Nathan Seltzer, Sr. He moved to Concord with his mother at the age of seven after the tragic death of his father. He attended and graduated from Concord High School in 1940. He served in the U.S. Army as a Staff Sergeant with the 84th Division in Europe during World War II. He was wounded during the Battle of Rheinland in Germany and received a Purple Heart in 1945. He was also in the Battle of the Bulge and was a Heavy Mortar Squad Leader. Ed attended as a United States veteran, one year at Pfeiffer College, one year at Lafayette College and two years at North Carolina State University. He graduated from NCSU in 1948, Summa Cum Laude, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Forestry. He was employed with the North Carolina Department of Conservation and Development as the Cabarrus County Forester from 1948 until 1964. He worked for Jake Rudisill and Associates in Charlotte from 1964 until retirement in 1999. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, The Humane Society, Railsplitters and formerly a Master Gardener. He was a member of Central United Methodist Church in Concord where he was baptized as a young boy. He enjoyed opera, symphonies, plays, art, antiquing, traveling and museums. He leaves behind one beloved nephew; Edward Nathan Seltzer, II of Concord. Other survivors include nephews; Donald Seltzer of California, Eddie and Greg Seltzer of Charlotte, and Larry Seltzer of Rochester, NY. Nieces; Deloris Smith of Raleigh and Marsha Garnett of Charlotte. It is Mr. Seltzer's wish that his sincere appreciation and love be publicly given to Diana and Jim DeVore of Concord for their devoted care giving and friendship during the last years of his life.
