Edward "Eddie" Woodrow Rhodes, 85, of Kannapolis died unexpectedly on January 11, 2024 at his home.
He was born October 3, 1938 in Cherokee County, NC, to the late Pearly Rhodes and Annie Lunsford Goforth. He was educated in Cabarrus County schools and graduated from Odell School, where he drove a school bus in high school.
Mr. Rhodes began working at Cannon Mills in 1958 and was a supervisor for many years until 1984. Mr. Rhodes then worked at Fredrickson Trucking. He was in charge of preforming maintenance and repair at terminals throughout the southeast until 1998 He then worked at Saia Trucking until retirement.
Eddie enjoyed sports and played softball, coached little league baseball and played golf. He was affectionally know as "suitcase" by his teammates and the youth he coached throughout the years.
Eddie is survived by his wife, Shirley Key Rhodes. They met in 1956 and were married on December 23, 1957. He was preceded by his son Gary Wayne Rhodes who passed in 2022 and his sister Grace Furr in 2023.
He is survived by his daughters, Teresa Rhodes Allman (Kilburn) and Lori Bradshaw (Tommy) and daughter in law Sherry Rhodes, 6 grandchildren, Kilburn Allman Jr. (Kristen), Kody Allman (Katie), Nikki Brigman, Travis Rhodes, TC Bradshaw, Justin Bradshaw (Stephanie), 12 greatgrandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.
Mr. Rhodes was of the Baptist faith and loved the Lord. Visitation will be held from 1-2 PM Tuesday, January 16, 2024, with the service to follow in Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel at 2PM, with Rev. Jim Strickland officiating, burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park.
