Elizabeth (Beth) Whitehead Chewning

Florence Elizabeth Whitehead Chewning, 67, entered her eternal rest on July 26, 2024. Beth loved her Lord & Savior Jesus Christ and lived a life of faithful service.

Beth was born July 16, 1957, in Concord, NC. She was raised in Kannapolis, NC and lived in Landis, NC for over 40 years.  She graduated from A.L. Brown High School in 1976. Beth then went on to graduate from UNC-Charlotte in 1980 and worked for the State of North Carolina for over 30 years in employment services. She was a member of First Reformed Church in Landis and participated in various ministries over the years, including as assistant leader of the children’s choir and participating in the praise band as a flutist.

She married Samuel Lynn Chewning in August of 1981. They have one son, Jeffrey Chewning.

She was preceded in death by her father Charles Henry Whitehead, Sr. and her mother Myrtle F. Whitehead. Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Sam Chewning, son Jeff Chewning (Ashley) and granddaughter Evelyn Chewning, and brother, Charlie Whitehead.

Celebration of Life service will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, August 11th at First Reformed Church, Landis, with burial to follow at Carolina Memorial Park. Officiating Minister is Reverend David P. Franks.

Visitation will be prior to the service from 1:30–3:00 PM at the church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: St Jude Children’s Hospital; LIFE Center in Concord, NC; or First Reformed Church, Landis, NC.
