Obituary: Elizabeth Nan Nation, age 81, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, January 13, 2014 at Caromont Regional Medical Center, Gastonia, NC. She was born August 27, 1932 in Rutherford County, NC, the daughter of the late Tillman Crawford Bridges and Annie Doggett Bridges. She was a 1950 graduate of Cool Springs High School, Forest City, NC and Kings Business, Shelby, NC. Nan was employed with the former Sodyeco Corp.in Charlotte, NC as a technical secretary for 20 years until her retirement. She also worked for the City of Belmont and with Fred Upchurch CPA, Gastonia, NC. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Mt. Holly, NC. Following retirement, she served as a devoted grandmother and caretaker for her two grandchildren, and graciously drove them to every extracurricular activity imaginable. She was also an avid animal lover, and will be remembered fondly as an enthusiastic bird watcher. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Gene Lee Nation who died April 29, 1985; two brothers, Joe Bridges and Bill Bridges; and three sisters, Eva Pruette, Hazel Bridges Sparks, and Mary Bridges. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at First United Methodist Church, Mt. Holly, NC officiated by Rev. Angela Pleasants. Burial will follow at Gaston Memorial Park, Gastonia, NC. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at McLean Funeral Home, 515 N. Central Avenue, Belmont, NC. The family will be at the residence for the remainder of the time. Survivors include her daughter, Catherine N. Whitley of Mt. Holly, NC; her son, Thomas Lee Nation of Lake Wiley, SC; one brother, T. Eugene Bridges & wife, Barbara of Simpsonville, SC; two grandchildren, Elizabeth Jane Whitley of Charlotte, NC and Sarah Catherine Whitley of Boston, MA Memorials may be made to the Tri-County Animal Rescue, PO Box 483, Alexis, NC 28006, or online at http://www.tcar.us/donationsvolunteering.html.
