Elizabeth Helms Smith

Obituary: Elizabeth Mary Ann Helms Smith, 83, of Concord died unexpectedly on Saturday, June 1, 2019 at her home. Her funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM Wednesday, June 5, at Gilwood Presbyterian Church with Rev. Nathan Wheeler officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Her family will receive friends at the church, the hour prior to her funeral, from 2:00 to 3:00 PM on Wednesday. Elizabeth was born December 6, 1935 in Mecklenburg Co., a daughter of the late Ernest Lee and Velma Wright Helms. She was the last surviving sibling of her 6 brothers and 2 sisters. In addition to her parents and siblings, Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Dale Smith, on May 29, 2018. Elizabeth was a lifelong area resident and longtime member of Gilwood Presbyterian Church. She worked for the Brian Center in Concord in the dietary unit for many years and then later as an infant caregiver at the Shiloh UMC daycare for many years until she retired. Elizabeth enjoyed staying at White Lake with her family. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be dearly missed. Her memory will be cherished by her son Bobby Smith (Tammy) of Concord, two granddaughters, Kari E. Smith and Jennifer Rose, both of China Grove, 5 great-grandchildren, her best friend, Jane Small, as well as many nieces and nephews.
