Obituary: Elizabeth "Lib" Power Watkins, 94, of Wilmington, formerly of Concord, died Friday, November 21, 2014 at Liberty Commons Wilmington after a period of declining health. Her family will receive friends at Whitley's Funeral Home on Monday, November 24 from 10 to 11:00 AM, with the funeral following at 11:00 AM in Whitley's Chapel. Burial will take place at Carolina Memorial Park. Lib was born April 14, 1920, in Madison Co. GA, a daughter of the late Charlie A. and Ethel Cooper Power. She moved to this area as an infant with her family. Lib graduated from J. W. Cannon High School and married Louie E. Watkins, following him in his work with the FBI, to Pittsburgh PA, Raleigh NC and then Roanoke Rapids, where she worked as an administrator for Guardian Care Nursing Home until she retired. After retiring, Lib moved back to Concord and was an active member of Pitts Baptist Church. She enjoyed flower arranging and various crafts. Lib was a loving mother, grandmother and sister. She will be deeply missed. In addition to her parents, Lib was preceded in death by her husband, Louie E. Watkins, and her sister, Frances Collins and her brothers, David and J.D. Power. She is survived by her son, Harry Watkins (Vicki) and granddaughter, Brooke Watkins, all of Wilmington and her sisters; Betty Jo Troutman, Mickey Watts and Virginia Shuping, all of Kannapolis and many loving nieces and nephews.
