Obituary: Ella Grooms Eagle, age 88, of Kannapolis went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, September 2, 2013 from Tucker Hospice House after a period of declining health. Her funeral will be held Thursday, September 5, at 11:00 AM at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mike Edwards officiating. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove. The family will receive friends at Whitley's Funeral Home from 10:00 to 11:00 AM on Thursday, prior to the Funeral Service, at other times they will be at 1550 Bostian Rd. China Grove, NC 28023 at the home of Jill and Phil Hudson. Ella was born October 20, 1924 in Chesterfield Co. SC, a daughter of the late Tom and Marie Bittle Grooms. She was a long-time area resident and member of Piedmont Baptist Church. Ella worked for many years for Cannon Mills Co. until retiring. She will always be remembered for her friendship cake, yard sales and "speaking" her mind. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 2 husbands, Russell McGee and James Bernard Eagle, her son, Billy Johns, her step daughter, Elaine Smith and 2 sisters and 2 brothers. She is survived by 3 step-daughters; Diane Steelman of Baltimore, MD, Jill Hudson (Phil) of China Grove and Beth Hubbard of Kannapolis, 3 grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter, Ella and her brother, Neal Grooms of Albemarle and many other loving relatives.
