Ella Mae Mesimer

Obituary: Ella Mae Mesimer, 86, of China Grove, passed away, Tuesday, August 22, 2017, at her daughters home. Mae was born May 18, 1931 in Cabarrus Co. to the late Grady M. Wellmon and Rochelle Smith Wellmon. She worked many years at the A&P grocery store, Mae enjoyed many things in life, arts and crafts, sewing and quilting, being outdoors and working in the yard, she loved spending time with her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two husbands William D. Herndon Sr. (1963), Gilbert F. Mesimer (2002) a son, Curtis R. Herndon, a sister, Fran Davis, three brothers Willie Wellmon Sr., Billy Wellmon Sr., and James G. Wellmon. Those left to cherish her memory, her children, James D. Herndon (Martha) of Hamlet, William D. Herndon Jr. (Gena) of Concord, Linda H. Freeman (Bill) of Harrisburg, Susanne Haney of China Grove, Sandra M. Kimball (Darrell) of Rockwell, Rebecca M. Freeman (Lanny) of Salisbury, two brothers Colin C. Wellmon of China Grove, B. Alton Wellmon (Helen) of Greensboro, 16 grandchildren, and 16 great grandchildren. Funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Friday, August 25, at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Mike Hubbard officiating, burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held 2 hours prior to the funeral service at Whitley's Funeral Home, at other times the family will receive friends and family at her daughters home; 316 Kay Street, Salisbury, NC 28146.
