Elma (Sellers) Simpson

Elma Sellers Simpson, 95, of Kannapolis peacefully entered into the gates of Heaven on December 11, 2022 at Atrium Health Northeast after a period of declining health.

A service to celebrate her life will be held Tuesday, December 13, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at Whitley’s Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Scott Wheeler officiating. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Whitley’s Funeral Home prior to the service from 12:30 p.m. until 2:00 p.m.

Elma was born October 7, 1927 in Mt. Croghan, SC, a daughter of the late Cyrus and Carrie Sellers. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Hernon Simpson, a sister; Leona Sellers, and seven brothers; Paulie, Buddy, David, Duncan, Otis, Perry, and Murray Sellers.

She moved to Kannapolis after graduating high school and worked 21 years for Cannon Mills in the Set Department. In later years, she worked at K&W Cafeteria as secretary and cashier. Elma was a very loving Mom, Grandma and “Granny” who was devoted to her family and always willing to help in any way she could. She loved watching hummingbirds come to her feeders during the summer. She will be deeply missed by all who loved her.

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Dianne Pethel Biggerstaff (Tony), granddaughter, Kristen Biggerstaff Logan (David), two great-grandchildren, Landon Logan and Lahna Logan, a brother, Gerald Sellers of Mt. Croghan, SC, as well as a niece and several nephews.
