Obituary: Eloise Furr Dawson, 79, passed away peacefully Thursday, February 25, 2016 at her residence. Born February 9, 1937 in Stanly County, she was a daughter and one of 18 children of the late Albert Arthur and Mary Idabelle Brooks Furr. In addition to her parents, preceding her in death were 15 brothers and sisters, and her husband William Dawson, who died April 7, 2013. Eloise had retired from Corriher Mills in Landis after more than 20 years of loyal service. A loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt, she loved and enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her family remembers her fondly as "the best Mom in the world", a true southern Baptist and one who voiced her strong opinions concerning her die hard democratic beliefs. Family members left with cherished memories include her sons Scott Dawson and wife, Kim of Kannapolis and Kendall Jenkins of Gastonia;her daughters Lisa Newsome and husband, John, Jr. of Concord, and Darlene Hensley of Concord; sisters Emma Gulledge of Kannapolis and Bessie Smith of Oakboro; her grandchildren Alan Jenkins, Sabrina Rinehardt, Dennis Rinehardt, Jr., Stefanie Mason and Jennifer Hoggard,; 15 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Monday, February 29 from 6:00-8:00 pm at Whitley's Funeral Home in Kannapolis. Funeral services to remember and celebrate the life of Mrs. Dawson will be at 2:00 pm Tuesday, March 1 at Whitley's Funeral Home Main Chapel, conducted by Pastor Thad Brown.
