Obituary: Eloise Pruette McCombs, 86, of Kannapolis passed away on Thursday, January 23, 2014 at the Tucker Hospice House. She was born March 24, 1927 in Cleveland County, the daughter of Thomas McKesson Pruette and Bessie Downs Pruette. Eloise retired from Kannapolis City Schools where she was a teacher for many years. She taught various grades at several schools in Kannapolis in her earlier years. She was an active member of St. John's United Church of Christ. She served on various church committees, member of the Ladies Guild and the church choir. Eloise was a very caring person to her family and loved taking care of her neighbors. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, Jan. 25th at St. John's United Church of Christ officiated by Rev. H. Warren Casiday. Entombment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2:00 PM at the church. She is survived by her husband, Hoyle Mason McCombs, 5 nieces and nephews, Kathy Powell (Michael) of Bahama, NC, Joe Bingham (Joan) of Morganton, Brenda Israel (Jim) of Clemmons, Peggy Williams (Mark) of Hickory and Steve Mull (Cathy) of Shelby, 12 great-nieces and nephews and 12 great-great nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to St. John's United Church of Christ, 901 N. Main Street, Kannapolis, NC 28081 and/or Hospice of Cabarrus County, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC 28081. Whitley's Funeral Home handling arrangements.
