Obituary: Elsie Louise McDuffie Brown, 83, of Kannapolis passed away on Saturday, February 23, 2013 at her residence with family by her side. Her death follows a period of declining health. Mrs. Brown was born on January 23, 1930 in Franklin County, GA., a daughter of the late Earl F. and Eunice Hanley McDuffie. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by 2 brothers; Marion and James McDuffie, and 2 sisters; Mary Sue Lunsford and Blondine Cromer. Mrs. Brown retired from Cannon Mills in 1987 where she was a towel inspector. She was a member of Bethpage United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Dot Hurley Sunday School Class and the Golden Years Group. She enjoyed flower gardening, traveling and especially enjoyed helping others and visiting with family and friends. After retirement she babysat her four grandchildren, who she dearly loved. Funeral services for Mrs. Brown will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at Bethpage United Methodist Church with Rev. Marc Portis and Rev. Duane Melton officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the services at the church from 12:30 to 2:00 PM. Mrs. Brown is survived by her husband Lircey Lee Brown of the home, sons; Philip Lee Brown and Mark "Eric" Brown (Lisa) both of Kannapolis, Stephen Scott Brown of China Grove, a daughter; Beverly Ann Brown Lord of Wilmington, grandchildren; Megan Lord Petersen (Lucas), and Lauren Lord Urban (Steve) both of Wilmington, Samuel Lee Brown, and John Thomas Brown both of Kannapolis, brothers; Willie McDuffie of Salisbury, and Earl McDuffie Jr. (Willaree) of Raeford, sisters; Betty Pethel, Joan Freeman, and Frances "Shorty" Cook all of Kannapolis, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. The Brown family would like to thank Cabarrus County Hospice & Palliative Care for their kindness and care given to them during this difficult time.
