Elsie Miller Vickers, age 89, of Kannapolis passed away on Monday, August 29, 2022 following a period of declining health.
Elsie was born December 21, 1932, in Burke County, NC a daughter of the late David Henry Miller and Junie Bell Greenhill Miller. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, A.L. Vickers, Jr., a sister, Sadie Miller Shuping (Bill), and brothers, Charles Miller (Ruth) and J.D. Miller (Mary).
Elsie was a graduate of Salem High School, Class of 1951 and attended Clevenger College and was employed in the office of I.C.I. Americas (Imperial Chemical Company) in Charlotte for 27 years.
As a member of Trinity United Methodist Church since 1977, she was active in the choir for many years, the Vera Williams Circle, Kneeling Gardeners, United Methodist Women and Wesley Fellowship.
Elsie also served as State Secretary of the P.B.X. Club of the Carolinas from 1976-77. She loved her church family and the many friends and neighbors in the area.
Elsie and husband, A.L. had a love for gardening and spending quality time at their second home on Lake Norman boating, skiing, and entertaining friends. They each had a great love for animals especially German Shepherds and Poodles.
A celebration of life will be held 4:00 P.M. Tuesday, September 6th, 2022 at Trinity United Methodist Church officiated by Rev. Kirk Tutterow and Rev. Nancy Lowery. The family will receive friends at the church from 3:00 PM until the time of the service. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
She is survived by her son, Ardis L. Vickers, III (Michelle), of Locust, NC., grandson, Evan Vickers, niece, Kay Shuping Pollard (Bruce), nephew, Jerry Shuping (Clarice) and Jim Shuping, great nephews, Greg Shuping (Jennifer), Luke Shuping, Todd Shuping (Rebecca) great nieces; Grace Shuping of Waynesville, Emily Shuping and Ellie Shuping of Morganton.
The family would like to thank Millie Fink, a longtime family friend for her love, care and support.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 416 Martin Luther King Avenue, Kannapolis, NC 28083 and/or the Humane Society of Cabarrus County, 210 Wilshire Ct. SW, Concord, NC, 28025.
