Obituary: Elvin Wilson Rivers, 80, of 502 N. East Avenue, Kannapolis died Wednesday, July 28, 2010 at CMC-NorthEast. He was born May 1, 1930 in Chesterfield Co., SC, the son of the late Gildy and Julia Boatwright Rivers. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Ola Mae Jordan and Gladys Felkel and three brothers: Thomas, Oscar and Leroy Rivers. He was a veteran of the US Army serving from 1946-48. He had been employed with Sterches' Furniture Co. and Johnston Furniture Co. before working and retiring from Cannon Mills Co. in the Wet Finishing Dept. He was an active, lifelong member of the Westside Church of the Nazarene. He was a loving husband, devoted father and cherished grandfather. He loved fishing, playing the harmonica and churchwork. He enjoyed spending time with his family. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Saturday at Whitley's Funeral Home Annex Chapel officiated by Rev. Tim Davis. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park with military rites by the Cabarrus Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Friday at Whitley's Annex Chapel. At other times, the family will be at the home. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Geneva Pittman Rivers, 3 daughters: Linda Rivers Strickland, Phyllis Rivers Lopez (Fernando "Peppy"), and Jennifer Gaskey- Davis (Kevin), two grandchildren: Sabrina Lopez-Jaramillo (Julio) and Joshua Arquette, greatgrandchildren: Austin and Kandace Davis, Damion and Julio Jaramillo Jr., Khloe Arquette and a very special paw-paw's girl, Mikayla Davis. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 222 South Church St., Suite 336M, Charlotte, NC 28202.

Service: 2:00 p.m. Saturday July 31, 2010 Whitley's Annex Chapel

Interment: Carolina Memorial Park
