Emanuel Avner Thomas

Obituary: Mr. Emanuel Avner Thomas, 88, of 209 Penman Road, Neptune Beach, Fl. died Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2009 at his residence. He was born January 30, 1921 in Rowan County, NC son of the late A.C. and Willie Mae Beaver Thomas. He was a resident of Landis until leaving when he was seventeen to enlist in the US Navy. He was a 20 year veteran of the US Navy serving in WW2 and Korea. He was of the Lutheran Faith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Holshouser Thomas along with one sister; Margaret Owens and a brother; Grady Thomas. Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Monday, December 28, 2009 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Rev. C. Thurmond Plexico. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to services. Interment will follow in West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove. Survivors include a son: Bari Lane Thomas and wife Janet of Knoxville, Ten., four grandchildren: Tara Kramer and Husband John, Courtney Roch, and Meredith Woodson and Husband Matt. He is also survived by three sisters: Nancy Kneeburg and Husband Charles of Midland, Lois Perkins, and Zelia Schafermeyer. Also survived by one Brother: Hayden A.
