Obituary: Emery Lee Butler, 97 of Enochville passed away Sunday, April 17, 2016 while at Tucker Hospice House after a period of declining health. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Emery was born April 22, 1918 in Rowan County, a son of the late Earl McLean Butler and Lottie Overcash Butler. He was a life-long area resident and produce farmer in the Enochville community. Emery served his country during WWII in the Army Air Force in the Burmese Theater, receiving 2 Bronze Stars. After the war he worked in California for a time before returning home to Enochville where he lived and farmed until retiring due to poor health and became a resident at First Assembly Living Center in Concord. He grew and sold produce and was among the first organic farmers in this area. Emery also loved to dance, especially the 2-step. In addition to his parents, Emery was preceded in death by his siblings; Herman and Hugh Butler and Lillian B. Leazer. He is survived by his nephew, Benny Leazer of Raleigh and his nieces, Jettie L. Wise of China Grove and Shirley L. Sweatt of Chesterfield SC.
